Who We are

images

The Harley Street Eye Centre at 22a was founded in 2018 by Mr Marwan Ghabra around a quiet conviction – that real ophthalmic care begins in conversation with the surgeon who will perform the procedure, not with a call centre. Forty years of clinical practice live behind that idea, including the first phacoemulsification cataract surgery in Damascus and the technique that now carries his name.

From routine refractive surgery to the corneal and retinal cases other clinics turn away, every patient is met in person, scanned with the same diagnostic suite used for our most complex referrals, and given a plan built around their eyes – not a template.

Treatments we offer.

Most ophthalmology clinics are general or hyper-specialised. We do both – a full-spectrum eye centre where a single surgical team handles the front of the eye to the back of the retina, then sees you through aftercare.

Group 1 (1)

An internationally renowned ophthalmic surgeon with more than four decades of clinical and surgical practice, Mr Ghabra is the originator of the Ghabra Technique for keratoconus and the founder of the Harley Street Eye Centre.

Trained in the UK and Damascus, he performed the first phacoemulsification cataract surgery in Syria in 1998 and went on to train generations of ophthalmologists at Barts Health NHS Trust. His Monday surgical list is reserved for the complex cases other surgeons send to him.

The Ghabra Technique.

The Ghabra Technique is a femtosecond laser-assisted method for implanting collagen lenticules deep within the corneal stroma – designed to correct both anterior and posterior corneal irregularities in advanced keratoconus, and to preserve native tissue where transplant would otherwise be the only option.

Developed by Mr Marwan Ghabra in partnership with Gebauer Meditech and our innovation arm MAG Optics, the technique is now part of a broader keratoconus journey we offer to patients flown in from across the UK, the Gulf and the United States.

The technology behind your care

We chose every laser, every scanner and every implant on the same principle – that the surgeon’s decision is only as good as the data behind it.

Imaging, surgical and diagnostic platforms refreshed continuously since 2018. Two femtosecond and two excimer lasers in-house. Same imaging kit used for our complex referrals as for routine appointments.
