Intrastromal Ring Segments: Stabilise and Reshape Vision in Keratoconus

ICRS

From ยฃ2,500 per eye ยท complimentary assessment

A minimally invasive solution designed to regularise the cornea and improve visual quality in patients with keratoconus.

What are intrastromal ring segments?

Intrastromal ring segments (ICRS) are small, arc-shaped implants made from biocompatible material that are inserted into the corneal stroma to reshape and support the cornea. These implants help flatten the steep areas of the cornea in keratoconus, regularising its curvature and reducing visual distortions.

  • Advanced imaging and corneal mapping
  • Planning ring size and position based on topography
  • Minimally invasive insertion using femtosecond laser guidance
  • Postoperative monitoring and optimisation

Benefits of Intrastromal Ring Segments:

  • Improved Vision: Enhances clarity and reduces ghosting or double vision by reshaping the cornea.
  • Corneal Support: Adds structural stability to the weakened cornea.
  • Minimally Invasive: Requires no tissue removal and is reversible.
  • Lens Compatibility: Improves contact lens fit and comfort.
  • Delay or Avoid Transplant: Can significantly postpone the need for a corneal transplant in many cases.

Are you searching for a non-transplant solution for keratoconus?

You may benefit from intrastromal ring segments if:

You have mild to moderate keratoconus

Your vision is distorted despite using glasses or contact lenses

You want to delay or avoid corneal transplant

You experience frequent prescription changes

You are looking for a reversible and non-destructive treatment option

01

Free assessment

We look forward to welcoming you to your appointment and answering any questions you may have about treatment options, the clinic, timings or fees. Your consultation will include a comprehensive assessment by a consultant ophthalmologist, including vision testing and any required diagnostic imaging, to determine your suitability for treatment and develop an individualised management plan.

02

DIAGNOSIS

Following review of your assessment results, your consultant will explain the findings and discuss the most appropriate evidence-based management options, including non-surgical alternatives where relevant. The consultation will include a discussion of the expected outcomes, potential risks, recovery considerations and associated costs, enabling a shared decision on the most suitable treatment plan for your needs.

03

TREATMENT

You will be welcomed by our clinical team, who will complete final checks, confirm consent and ensure you are comfortable before treatment. The procedure is performed by your consultant using modern technology, followed by immediate post-operative assessment and provision of tailored aftercare instructions, including guidance for your recovery and onward support.

04

AFTERCARE

Good outcomes depend on structured follow-up care. We will monitor your recovery through scheduled reviews, adjust medications as required, and provide ongoing clinical advice, including guidance on symptoms, activity levels, and when to seek further support, with direct access to our team between appointments if needed.

How much do intrastromal rings cost?

Pricing depends on the ring type, surgical planning, and individual eye condition. A detailed treatment plan and cost breakdown are provided after consultation.
