A vitrectomy is an eye operation that removes the vitreous gel from inside the eye to gain better access to the retina. This allows surgeons to repair bleeding, scar tissue, retinal detachment, or remove persistent floaters.
It’s commonly used in cases of advanced diabetic eye disease, vitreous haemorrhage, macular pucker or hole, and complex retinal tears.
