Evaporative dry eye occurs when your eyes produce enough tears, but they don’t stay on the surface long enough to keep your eyes lubricated. This is usually caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)—blockages in the glands that release the oil layer of your tears. Without this layer, tears evaporate too quickly, leading to irritation, burning, and blurred vision.
